Description

A “zafu” is a round cushion, often used in Japanese and Chinese meditation. This plush friend is inspired by the ocean sunfish, or Mola mola, and is made of repurposed materials!

This is the UNSTUFFED option for Sunfish Zafu! For those crafty individuals inclined to hand-sewing, this listing is for the “shell” only—you get to choose what repurposed fabrics or remnants your sunfish will be stuffed with!

You will need:
• About 3–4 lb. of remnant fabric, depending how stuffed you want your cushion (I recommend repurposing fabric scraps not only because it diverts waste from landfills, but also because it’ll make a sturdier sunfish for you to sit on!)
• Sewing thread and needle
• Familiarity with hand-sewing an invisible slip stitch, or ladder stitch

☀️ NOTE ☀️
There are NO instructions of any kind included—just stuff the sunfish until you want to stop and then hand-sew it closed!

There is another listing for the completed, stuffed version. However, since this is my heaviest plush friend, the lowest shipping starts with USPS Priority Mail. So I want to offer a semi-DIY option for those who are interested :)

Just like with the stuffed version, a portion of proceeds is donated to Mental Health America, a community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all.

Once finished, Sunfish Zafu is approximately:
• 28" long (including fin-span)
• 18" wide
• 4.5" tall (will squish up or down if you sit on it or fluff it back up)

Please note that all sunfish shells are handmade, so there are slight variations between each one.

They are made from:
• REPURPOSED exterior fabric: Reused from secondhand curtains, dresses, and other recycled or reclaimed textiles
• A wee bit of recycled polyester filling, in the fins
• Sewing and embroidery thread

Due to their repurposed nature, no two sunfish friends are alike, and their fabric patterns and colors are only available in small, limited quantities.
☀️ Look at the listing photo for "Current Design" to see the current fabric combination available

These plushies should be safe for everyone of all ages, but should also probably be careful around children under 4 years old, as kids are known to be mischievous critters :3
